The Enugu State Government has extended hands of partnership to the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, to drive the technological advancement of the youth population in the state.
The Enugu State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Prince Lawrence Ezeh, made the disclosure to ESUT Management during a sensitization programme in the University, stressing that the partnership would focus on fostering tech growth, supporting startups, and sustainable community development initiatives.
The Commissioner who is also the Convener of Enugu Tech Festival, noted that technology had become the main stake of many sustainably developed economies of the world, stating that the goal aims at discovering tech-savvy youths in the state, training and exporting their products to other parts of the world.
He further stated that his ministry had started organizing hackathon in agriculture, health and power sectors in order to discover talents who would be sponsored to develop genuine applications and products for both domestic and export purposes.
He pointed out that Enugu State Government had entered into agreement with Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish tech companies for training and empowerment of the youth of the state, adding that there would be tech training in the state scheduled to hold between 24h-27th February, 2026 in the state.
“The Enugu State government, under Governor Peter Mbah, has set an ambitious economic growth target to increase the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from approximately $4 billion–$4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years. This transformation agenda focuses on driving industrialization, boosting agribusiness. In all these, tech should be at the driving seat,” he said.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, remarked that the University Management had deployed huge resources in promoting hightech in the University, stating that ESUT presently has an Innovation Hub for training and certification of staff and students on digital hands-on skills.
While thanking the state government for extending the partnership to ESUT, he noted that the University Management would support the project to advance human capital and sustainable economic development in the state.
Professor Okolie added that students of the University would be trained and certified in at least, three digital hands-on skills to equip them strongly to face the future before graduation.
