Foundation Donates ₦1m to Restore Electricity in Imo Community After Two Years
Pecohub The Strivad Foundation (TSF) has awarded a grant of N1 million for the restoration of electricity to Umuekwerede and Umuezelechi village in Umuoree, Eziudo, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
Presenting the cheque of the grant to the electricity committee of the village, on Wednesday, the Founder and President of the foundation, Dr. Uche Iro, said the gesture was part of the Foundation’s Rural Community Development Support programme.
Iro, represented by the foundation’s Director of Programmes Development, Dr. Tobias Nwokocha, urged the village to utilise the fund properly in fixing the damaged transformer in the area which has left the people in darkness for two years.
He called for cooperation and unity of purpose among the villagers, adding that such is needed in order to achieve meaningful development.
“The foundation is pleased to present to you a donation of the sum of ₦1 million to support you towards the repair and maintenance of the faulty electricity transformer serving the community.
“The foundation calls for unity and cooperation among the citizenry of the village. Local politics, personal interests and unnecessary divisions should never be allowed to stand in the way of community development or discourage well-meaning individuals and philanthropists from supporting the village”, he admonished.
Iro reminded them that protection of the transformer is their collective responsibility and charged them to guard against unauthorised access that could lead to any further damage.
“It is our sincere hope that this contribution will help restore electricity to the community and further strengthen the spirit of unity, responsibility and progress among the people of Umuezelechi and Umuekwerede village, and the entire Eziudo community at large.
“The transformer is a valuable community asset, and its protection and maintenance should be a collective responsibility”, he stated.
He tasked the electricity committee of the village to endeavour to deliver on its mandate of fixing the transformer without compromise.
It was gathered that the grant was funded by Dr. Uche Iro as part of his commitment towards enhancing rural community development across Nigeria, coming on the heels of his previous significant contribution towards the complete refurbishment of the same transformer a few years ago.
In his remarks, the Global Associate of TSF, Major Wilson Osuagwu, called on the village to make appropriate and judicious use of the grant by repairing the transformer.
Appreciating the grant, the visibly elated Chairman of the Electricity Committee of Umuekwerede and Umuezelechi, Engr. Chima Ukoha, assured that the donation will be used towards repairing the transformer.
Ukoha promised that the committee would deliver with despatch and called on the foundation not to relent in its philanthropy which he noted has impacted on communities.
