The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended Brown Ene, the chairman of its Enugu state chapter, over alleged misappropriation of funds.
The guild’s national executive council (NEC) held a meeting on Wednesday and voted to suspend the chairman and members of the state’s executive committee.
Abubakar Yakubu, the national secretary of the AGN, said the suspension followed various petitions received from members of the state chapter bordering on misappropriation of funds, embezzlement, and lack of due process.
“The NEC voted to suspend the executive committee which was immediately ratified by the board of trustees in line with Article 3, Section 6, paragraph 3D of the amended constitution of the AGN, 2019,” Yakubu said.
“Members of the suspended state executives were directed to appear before an investigative panel set up by NEC and headed by Doris Ogala.
“This is to allow each member of the executive committee the opportunity to defend themselves from all the allegations and whoever is exonerated will be reinstated.
“Those found culpable will be dealt with in line with the constitutional provisions.”
Yakubu said the NEC has appointed Stan Amandi as the sole administrator to oversee the affairs of the state chapter in the interim, pending the outcome of the report of the investigative panel.
“NEC has directed all aggrieved members of the state chapter to direct their reports or petitions to the Investigative Panel which will soon commence sitting in Enugu,” the spokesperson added.
