YouTube has announced that its first-ever exclusive global broadcast of an NFL game set a new record for the platform, attracting the highest number of concurrent viewers in its history.
More than 17.3 million viewers across 230 countries and territories tuned in last Friday to watch the Kansas City Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.
According to Nielsen, the game achieved an average minute audience (AMA) of 16.2 million in the United States, while YouTube reported an additional 1.1 million AMA from international viewers.
The broadcast formed part of YouTube’s expanded partnership with the NFL, unveiled at its annual Upfront event in May, aimed at boosting advertising revenue.
Although the figures fall short of Netflix’s 2024 Christmas doubleheader, which averaged more than 24 million viewers, YouTube emphasised that its creator-led approach offered a distinctive experience.
