The Managing Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mark Okoye, has presented the Commission’s proposed 2026 Budget and Strategic Outlook to the Senate Committee overseeing the agency, chaired by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Okoye disclosed this in a statement following the engagement, describing the session as constructive and focused on delivering measurable results for the South-East region.
According to him, the Commission is transitioning from planning to execution, with priority areas including infrastructure delivery, industrial acceleration, youth enterprise support, agricultural de-risking, and structured capital mobilisation through the South East Investment Company (SEIC). He noted that specific milestones have been outlined for implementation in the coming months.
He emphasized that sustainable regional development requires coordination among the National Assembly, state governors, and relevant federal institutions, adding that the Senate Committee underscored the need for transparency, accountability, and measurable impact in the Commission’s operations.

Following the budget defence session, Okoye and his team also paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to strengthen legislative collaboration in advancing the Commission’s mandate.
