The Presidency on Sunday shared an image purporting to show President Bola Tinubu meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris, France.
However, the photograph was later flagged on X (formerly Twitter) by users and independent observers as being generated by artificial intelligence, raising questions about the authenticity of the image and the circumstances surrounding its release.
The image, which circulated widely shortly after it was posted, drew attention due to visible inconsistencies commonly associated with AI-generated visuals. Critics on social media accused the Presidency of misleading the public, while others called for an official clarification on whether the meeting actually took place or if the image was merely illustrative.
As of the time of reporting, the Presidency of Nigeria has not issued a formal explanation addressing why an AI-generated image was used or whether a genuine bilateral engagement occurred between both leaders in Paris.
The incident has reignited debate around transparency, official communication standards, and the growing use of artificial intelligence in government media dissemination.
