Tensions in the Pacific have started to escalate due to Kim Jong Un’s intention to develop his country’s nuclear capabilities and the deployment of troops to Ukraine to support the Kremlin.

New satellite images show North Korea preparing a military ship.

The first ship, weighing 5,000 tonnes, was unveiled in April by state media and is expected to enter service in 2026.

Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, described it as the “largest ship ever built” by North Korea and said it would serve as a “powerful deterrent“.

After its official presentation, several analysts noted that the imposing ship didn’t move during the entire broadcast, as it lacks a “functional propulsion system” to navigate on its own, and that it had to be towed in and out of port.

New images have shown that the 144-metre-long ship is equipped with vertical launch missile systems which could be fitted with anti-aircraft, anti-ship, anti-submarine and anti-ballistic missiles.

It could also be equipped with tactical ballistic and land-attack missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
