A Nigerian boxer, Segun Olanrewaju, has died after collapsing during a boxing match in Ghana on Saturday.

Olanrewaju was said to have lost consciousness while facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment he collapsed in the ring.

Despite efforts to revive him, the 40-year-old was pronounced dead, marking a tragic end to his professional career, which included 24 fights, 13 wins, 8 losses, and 3 draws.

The boxing community has mourned his passing, recognizing Olanrewaju’s contributions to the sport in Nigeria and West Africa. He had earned both the National and West African light-heavyweight titles during his tenure.

In 2022, Chukwuemeka Igboanugo, another boxer, also died after suffering a technical knockout (TKO) in a bout at the National Sports Festival (NSF) in Delta.
