Nigeria and the Arab Republic of Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in aviation and aerospace development.
The agreement, signed at the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Abuja, follows bilateral discussions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and marks a significant review of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between both countries under the new African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) template.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo described the MoU as a historic milestone and a new chapter in mutual cooperation that would drive commerce, tourism, and diplomacy.
“This MoU lays the groundwork for transformative partnerships that will not only enhance service delivery and connectivity but also contribute to Africa’s broader goal of economic integration,” Keyamo said.
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s warm reception and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deeper ties.
He highlighted Egypt Air’s current operations conducting over 600 flights annually to Lagos and Kano and expressed eagerness to scale up flight frequency to meet growing demand.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, welcomed the Egyptian delegation and praised the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
The renewed partnership is expected to unlock new opportunities for businesses, improve regional mobility, and reinforce the strategic role of aviation in Africa’s development agenda.
