The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has constituted a three-member committee to investigate allegations of impropriety surrounding the receipt, management and disbursement of the ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government to the NBA Owerri Branch.
The decision follows concerns raised by members of the Owerri Branch and a formal requisition by 183 members seeking an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to address issues surrounding the funds.

In a statement announcing the intervention, Badejo-Okusanya said the committee would examine relevant financial records, receive representations from the individuals concerned and submit its findings and recommendations no later than October 30, 2026.
The committee comprises the NBA General Secretary, Afam Okeke; Third Vice-President, Iniobong Irene Pepple; and Treasurer, Esther Jimoh.
According to the NBA President, the panel is expected to conduct a thorough examination of the issues raised and establish the relevant facts surrounding the receipt, management and disbursement of the money.
The committee will also attend the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. as representatives of the NBA President.
Badejo-Okusanya said their presence would enable them to observe the proceedings and support the orderly conduct of the meeting.
She stressed, however, that the constitution of the committee should not be interpreted as a finding of wrongdoing against any individual connected to the matter.
The NBA President assured that everyone whose conduct is called into question would be given a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations before the committee reaches its conclusions.
She also directed that all relevant financial records be preserved and made available to facilitate a comprehensive and transparent investigation.
Emphasising the importance of accountability and due process, Badejo-Okusanya said the association remained committed to addressing concerns raised by its members through a fair, transparent and orderly process.
“As President of the Nigerian Bar Association, I remain committed to ensuring that concerns raised by members are addressed through a fair, transparent and orderly process,” she said.
“Accountability must go hand in hand with due process, and our response must sustain members’ confidence in the Association.”
