Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says his seven-year-old daughter once told him that she wanted to be like Taylor Swift when she grew up.
Zuckerberg brought up a conversation he had with his daughter, August, during a live interview on the “Acquired” podcast. The interview, which was filmed on September 10, was released on Wednesday. Zuckerberg has three daughters with his wife, Priscilla Chan.
When asked if he had any advice for today’s company founders, Zuckerberg talked about the importance of being original, citing a conversation he had with August.
“One day, my daughter. We took her to a Taylor Swift concert and she was like, ‘You know Dad, I kind of want to be like Taylor Swift when I grow up,'” Zuckerberg told “Acquired” hosts Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal.
“I was like, ‘But you can’t. That’s not available to you.’ And she thought about it and she’s like, ‘Alright when I grow up I want people to want to be like August Chan Zuckerberg,'” Zuckerberg continued.
“And I was like, ‘Hell yeah. Hell yeah.'”
To be sure, Zuckerberg has long been a fan of Swift and her music. Though the two may come from the disparate worlds of tech and music, Zuckerberg and Swift do have one thing in common. Both of them are billionaires and have built empires of their own.
In October, Bloomberg reported Swift had officially reached billionaire status following the commercial success of her record-breaking Eras Tour.
In July 2023, Zuckerberg took Chan and two of his daughters to Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Santa Clara, California. Zuckerberg was spotted in a pink T-shirt, with little gemstones on his face.
“Life of a girl dad,” Zuckerberg wrote in an Instagram post about the concert.
Representatives for Zuckerberg at Meta and Swift did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
