A social media user has sparked reactions online after posting a strongly worded critique of living conditions in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, describing the city as a “glorified slum.”
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the user, identified as Nedum Ani, claimed he spent two weeks in the southeastern city and left disappointed by what he described as poor infrastructure and difficult living conditions.
According to the post, he visited several areas including Achara Layout, Uwani, Coal Camp, Ngwo, Mary Land, GRA and Independence Layout during his stay.
The user alleged that the city suffers from frequent power outages and non-functional street lights, blaming the situation on the regional electricity distribution company.
He also claimed that informal jobs such as tricycle operations, mini-bus driving and point-of-sale (POS) services appeared to be among the most common sources of employment for residents.
The post further criticised what he described as widespread poverty and begging in parts of the city, including around commercial centres and public facilities.
In addition, he recounted a personal experience at a shopping mall where he said he encountered poor restroom conditions, claiming there was no water available at the time.
