She’s a Harvard grad and has been working in the entertainment business since she was a student, but sources tell Star that former first daughter Malia Obama’s friends are worried she’s putting fun over career.
“Malia has more experience than your average twentysomething TV writer and producer,” says the source. “The problem is how much of her life she still devotes to partying and socializing.”
The L.A.-based 27-year-old has worked on Girls, Extant and Donald Glover’s Prime Video series Swarm, as well as debuting her own short film, The Heart, at the Sundance Film Festival.
Yet the source says Malia is “still figuring out what she really wants to say” with her work while her peers are already proving themselves. “It’s been a long time since she was a film student, and a lot of her classmates from her early days as an assistant and writer are passing her by.”

Barack and Michelle Obama’s older daughter, Malia loves living and working in Hollywood, adds the source. “But it’s the lifestyle she’s enamored with, not the grind and the inevitable rejection that comes with any serious writing career.”
