The enthusiasm of many electorates who came out early on Saturday to vote is being dampened as the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have not arrived some polling units in Enugu

Our correspondent reports that there was massive turn out of voters which includes youth and elderly men and women in Enugu on saturday despite the threat but many laments of late arrival of INEC officials

The turn out of voters shows that residents seem to have obeyed to the calls by Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers for them to ignore the sit-at-home orders by a Pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa based in Finland.

Our correspondent who went round some polling units which include Federal government College which has about 3 polling units, Awkunanaw Girls, 9 polling units, Maryland Estate, 2 polling units and Okpara Square with over 9 polling units reports that as at 9.30am, INEC official were not on ground to commence accreditation

Party agents and international observers are already on ground as at the time of filling this report.

Emmanuel Orajekwe who spoke to our correspondent at Maryland Estate Unit 1 said he arrived the unit as early as 7.45 am,

“The situation is unfortunate, they are trying to disfranchise some people as well as frustrate us but it won’t work because we are ready to vote for our candidates and we will not leave here until they arrive.

Also at Federal Goverment Unit 1,2 and 3 voters were seeing moving around without any INEC official on ground.

Michael Orochukwu said he arrived the unit at 8.15 and “no Inec official is here. It’s really a concern to me because people are eager to vote so why would INEC want to frustrate us,”.

Juliet Ugwu, who spoke to Daily Independenr at Okpara Square Unit 1 said “we are here as we are not ready to leave. If INEC like, let them come in the night, we will wait and vote for our candidates so late arrival of INEC or materials will not discourage us.

Our reports that as at 9,55 am, INEC official were seeing moving out voting material from Okpara Square to polling units while some officials were still on ground waiting for vehicle that will take them to their units.
