Enugu Police Mobile Force was ambushed by gunmen around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and two policemen were killed and another sustained bullet injuries.
The sad occurrence happened while the “Operation Restore Peace” Enugu squad was on a routine patrol along the Udi-Ozalla Road.
According to reports from Daily Sun, the slain officers were Danjuma Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Inspector Abu Elamaje.
The police officers were taken urgently to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla for treatment, but the on-call medical staff declared the pair dead.
The police source further said that efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
