The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has commissioned the South-east zonal office of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria.
Speaking Thursday during the commissioning in Enugu, he restated federal government’s commitment to elevate the standard of radiography practice and patient care across Nigeria in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister said the ministry is committed to supporting regulatory bodies to carry out their mandates of regulating standards of practice and enforcement of compliance in order to ensure quality healthcare delivery for Nigerians.
“It is a common knowledge that without proper regulation and monitoring, quackery thrives, standard of practice becomes compromised, patients suffers and health outcomes are negatively impacted.
Dr. Salako emphasized that the board must therefore redouble its efforts in safeguarding professional standards, licensing, and continuing professional education for radiographers.
“We will strengthen public trust and reassure patients that every radiographer upholds the highest levels of ethics, safety, and competence.
The Minister urged the professional body to expand licensing coverage to ensure all radiographers practicing in Nigeria are duly registered, enforce ethical standards, and radiation safety protocols to minimize risk to patients and staff.
“It is also important that radiographers continue to expand and deepen the use of digital platforms in order to take regulatory services closer to the people, reach the underserved areas with training and improve efficiency,” Dr Salako stressed.
He charged radiographers to continue to promote capacity building by accrediting and enforcing professional development programs to keep practitioners at the cutting edge of knowledge.
“It is my hope that this zonal office being commissioned will enhance access to registration, licensing, compliance, and continuing professional development for practitioners in the Southeast and neighboring regions.
The Minister reaffirm the ministry’s commitment to all Nigerians where every patient receives safe, timely, and high quality radiography services.
Dr. Salako commended the Registrar of radiographers, Prof. Mark Chukwudi Okeji, for his commitment and dedication and also to the Governor of Enugu state Dr. Peter Nduduisi Mbah for his transformative overhaul of the health sector with focus on personnel recruitment and development, infrastructural provision and technology enablement.
