The Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area in Enugu State, Engr. Jude Asogwa, has refuted claims that his office approved the collection of a ₦500 job processing fee from applicants seeking employment in recently advertised federal government positions.
Reports had circulated alleging that the council chairman sanctioned the mandatory payment from applicants vying for roles in agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigeria Correctional Service.
However, in a statement released through his media team and made available to Pecohub Media, Asogwa described the reports as false and misleading. He stated categorically that neither he nor anyone in his office authorised such collections.
“The leadership of the council wishes to state unequivocally that it has not instructed the collection of ₦500 as claimed by those circulating the report,” the statement read.
Asogwa emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance, adding that he had no prior knowledge of the alleged fee and did not delegate anyone to collect money from job seekers.
According to the statement, a full-scale investigation has been launched to uncover the origin and motive behind the claims. The council urged residents to remain calm and vigilant as the probe continues.
“We encourage the public to speak up and report any suspicious activity. We must not allow falsehood and corruption to undermine the integrity of governance,” the release stated.
Engr. Asogwa also warned against the spread of misinformation for political or personal gain, describing such acts as harmful and counterproductive to genuine efforts aimed at public service.
