Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has conducted its first consolidated induction ceremony for students enrolled in its certificate programmes, marking a significant step in its drive toward practical, community-focused education.
The event took place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers Corner Campus, where the newly admitted students were formally welcomed into programmes designed to address real societal needs.
In a message delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Sergius Udeh, the Vice-Chancellor, Christian Anieke, said the induction officially marks the students’ entry into programmes carefully structured to create positive social impact.
He explained that the university’s certificate programmes are tailored to go beyond theoretical learning by equipping participants with practical skills capable of transforming communities. The programmes include the Institution of Caregiving Education (ICE), New Evangelization and Research Ministry (NERAM), Mary Agro Institute (MAI), Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), and the Music Programme.
According to him, the maiden ceremony reflects the university’s growing capacity to deliver quality programmes with global relevance. He added that the initiatives are designed to empower young people in agriculture, meet the rising demand for professional caregivers, promote evangelisation, and encourage advocacy for justice, moral values, and human dignity.
Directors of the various programmes, in their goodwill messages, commended the initiative and its contribution to community development.
The Director of the Institute of Caregiving Education, Prof. Blessing Udeh, described the programme as a strong platform for service and urged the inductees to use their training to make meaningful contributions to society.
Similarly, the Director of NERAM, Rev. Fr. Dr. Callistus Anieke, praised the university’s leadership for its commitment and teamwork in successfully launching the programme.
Also speaking, the Director of CIDJAP, Rev. Fr. Ambrose Ofordile, encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities for personal growth and service.
Representing the Mary Agro Institute, Rev. Fr. Onyedikachi Chianu conveyed confidence that the students would become key drivers of food sufficiency and youth employment.
The Director of the Music Programme, Rev. Fr. Basil Okeke, also lauded the university for blending talent development with community service.
