A total of one thousand new students on Saturday, 16th March, took their matriculation oath as Godfrey Okoye University Enugu marked its 15th matriculation Ceremony.
The number comprised students admitted into the five faculties of the university as well as those of the university’s College of Medicine.
In an address at the event tagged, “My letter to MAT 24”, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke advised the new students to see challenge as temporary setback for good discoveries.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the policies of the university were not aimed at interfering in the freedom of the students but to train them to be better citizens that would be useful to the society.
“You should make reading your way of life and pray always. Avoid bad company, laziness and other negative actions that can affect the achievement of your dreams “.
“You should make your voice heard on campus by being peace champions or winning prizes in competitions organised within and outside the University. Be a global player rather than local champions”, Prof Anieke said.
In a goodwill message at the event, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, His Grace, Most Reverend Dr. Chibuzo Raphael Opoko described Godfrey Okoye University as a university with a difference.
Most Reverend Dr. Opoko reminded the new students that what they make from the classroom would make the difference in their life in future.
The Archbishop promised to support the university to promote education and achieve its dreams.
Responding on behalf of the new students, Miss Jennifer Ebere Ibe noted with appreciation the importance the institution placed on character moulding and quality teaching as well as learning and observed that the Vice Chancellor was committed to the success of every student.
The matriculation was attended by students of the University, those of the Institute of Ecumenical Education, Thinkers Corner Enugu, (an arm of the University’s group of institutions which also had its 43rd matriculation Ceremony on the same day), principal officers of the institutions and parents of the students.
