Abia State government says it has commenced digital 2025 annual school census of all public and private schools in the State.

Also, military and paramilitary schools, as well as faith-based schools in Abia State are to be captured in the Digital School Census aimed at improving education with informed decisions.

A statement signed by the Abia State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, said that the census which aims to gather accurate data on all schools in the State, would begin on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The statement advised all the Principals and Head Teachers of public schools, the proprietors of private, military, paramilitary and faith-based schools to log in to the NEMIS portal using their official school code to submit their data between May 20 and May 30, 2025.

According to the statement, in order to facilitate access, the portal is compatible with various devices, including smartphones, tablets, or computers, stating that schools may use any available internet-enabled device to complete the process.

The statement said that schools without a school code should contact their Local Government Education Authority to obtain it free of charge.

The State government warned that failure to participate in the census may result in schools being classified as non-existent and potentially shut down.

The government also called on traditional rulers, local government chairmen, church leaders and school-based management committees to ensure compliance to the directive.
