Dr. Dre’s former psychiatrist has continued to speak his truth and is standing by it, at least according to his new motion against the music mogul.
Dr. Charles J Sophy claimed his former client intimidated him through various means while he worked with him to sort out his divorce settlement.
The psychiatrist previously filed a temporary restraining order against Dr. Dre over threatening text messages. Dre denied the allegations and called the $10 million lawsuit a racist attack.
Dr. Sophy filed a new declaration presented to the Los Angeles Superior Court on March 14. In the document, he outlined the distress he claimed to have suffered due to alleged threats made by the hip-hop mogul.
Dr. Sophy was initially brought on to assist in the divorce proceedings between Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, and his ex-wife, Nicole Young, to help them reach a settlement.
The psychiatrist described the emotional distress he believes he experienced due to actions attributed to Dre, who he claims sent fake FBI agents to his gated community to intimidate him.
Per In Touch, the medical practitioner emphasized that these incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty around him.
Dr. Sophy expressed deep concern for his safety following several alarming incidents involving Dre.
He indicated that Dre’s unlawful behavior and the relentless harassing text messages he received over a seven-month period have compelled him to take significant security precautions, driven by fear for his life.
These measures include installing advanced security cameras at his home, hiring private security personnel for constant protection, and even wearing a bulletproof cap and vest when outside.
Dr. Sophy also communicated his anxiety, stating that he feels unsafe leaving his residence and is perpetually on edge. He reported that the emotional toll from Dre’s threats and previous acts of violence has resulted in severe distress, panic, and mental anguish.
In response, Dre has denied all allegations against him, and the legal proceedings are still ongoing.
In October 2024, Dr. Sophy initiated a lawsuit against Dre, alleging harassment through threatening text messages despite their lack of communication for over a year.
A particularly intense message sent by Dre to his former psychiatrist on April 25, 2023, revealed his anger and frustration. In the text, he confronted Dr. Sophy about attempting to persuade someone to speak negatively about him in the media.
“Hey doc, of whatever the f–k you’re pretending to be. Just know this. I’m not going anywhere until you explain to me why you tried to talk [redacted] into saying negative things about me to the media. You’re a piece of s–t!!!” the producer declared.
Dre described the medic in derogatory terms and alluded to being made aware of a troubling situation involving him, indicating that his actions would have repercussions.
Dr. Sophy, the recipient of these messages, denied Dre’s accusations of encouraging negative discourse about him. During the court proceedings, Dr. Sophy’s attorney emphasized Dre’s significant power and influence in Hollywood, coupled with a documented history of violence and abuse.
This context led the psychiatrist to justifiably fear for his safety, believing that Dre might act on his threats.
As shared by The Blast, the rapper maintained his innocence in the civil harassment lawsuit filed by his former psychiatrist. He implored the court to dismiss the case, emphasizing that the psychiatrist is not entitled to the $10 million in damages he seeks.
Dre’s attorney argued in the motion for dismissal that Dr. Sophy failed to exercise proper care and prudence regarding the allegations outlined in the complaint, asserting that this negligence was unrelated to Dre’s actions.
The legal documents further claim that the psychologist played a role in the wrongful acts mentioned in the complaint. Dre’s filing suggested that the medic should be barred from recovering any damages or, at the very least, that any awarded amount should be proportionally reduced.
