Sean “Diddy” Combs’ incarceration has reportedly had no effect on his influence or control. A new report claims that the rapper remains “powerful” even while in jail.
Last month, he was arrested following a lengthy federal investigation and has been denied bail on serious charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution.
For now, Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in detention, but an opportunity to seek bail may arise again after his case was recently reassigned to a new judge.
With Diddy currently in detention, as he awaits his sex crimes trial, one might assume that any influence the rapper once held has been permanently lost.
However, that seems to be far from the truth, according to a source familiar with the rapper who spoke to People Magazine.
The insider said about Diddy, “He’s so powerful. Everyone was afraid to cross him. Even though he’s behind bars now, he’s still so powerful. We all knew it even back then.”
In the wake of Diddy’s arrest, several revelations have emerged, many highlighting the Bad Boy mogul’s obsession with exerting control over his associates and alleged victims.
The source now claims that at the height of Diddy’s influence, those around him believed his need for control stemmed from his intelligence.
The insider added, “Everyone always chalked it up to being a creative genius when it came to his obsession with controlling things.”
After being charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, Diddy pleaded not guilty to all three felony counts.
The rapper also indicated via his legal team that he has no plans to take a plea deal if the prosecution does choose to bring one to the table.
Although many have tagged this move as merely the rapper’s preference to fight for his innocence, the source hinted that it might be due to Diddy harboring an intention to influence his trial with his connections.
“He’s incredibly smart,” said the insider. “He knows a lot of people, and he’s helped a lot of people — so a lot of people owe him. He knows that.”
According to the source, the music mogul still holds much sway and “is capable of a lot — much more than people think, even now” as he remains in detention.
Diddy is currently being held at a detention center in New York after being denied bail twice.
The denials occurred just days after his arrest, first by Judge Robyn Tarnofsky and subsequently by Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr.
Despite presenting an enhanced bail package during his second attempt, the rapper’s request was denied on the grounds that he was considered a flight risk and could potentially influence witnesses.
Following these denials, he was expected to remain in jail until his trial. However, it seems he now has a third opportunity to seek bail after his case was reassigned to a new judge, Arun Subramanian, on October 3, per E! News.
This reassignment follows remarks from Judge Carter Jr., who indicated in a previous hearing that the case could be reassigned if he could not accommodate a trial date.
It remains to be seen whether Diddy will seize this chance to regain his freedom before the trial begins.
