The Anambra State government has used its X page to promote a song by Ozonna Soludo, the son of Charles Soludo, the state governor.
The X handle posted a video of the governor dancing with his son to his new release, Big Flex.
This act violates section Section 3.2 of the ‘Framework and Guidelines For The Use of Social Media Platforms In Public Institutions’.
The section states clearly that government official, in using social media, shall “not publish personal opinions on official social media accounts” and “ensure postings or comments are factual, ethical, respectful, apolitical, impartial and professional”.
The song Soludo was dancing to with his song may not be an “opinion” as the act NITDA guideline stipulates, but it relates a personal life of Soludo and his Ozonna, consequently not qualifying to be a suitable content for a government page.
Anambra is not the only state to have been recently caught in this violation. The Lagos State government’s X and Facebook handles were also recently used to throw personal political jabs at the newly created opposition party African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In similar fashion, the Nigeria Police used its official account to post an opinion that attacked former candidate of the African Action Congress Omoyele Sowore.
