The United States has sent at least four F-15 fighter jets to support the military base they manage jointly with the United Kingdom on the largest island of the Chagos Archipelago, a group of islands situated south of India and east of the Seychelles.

This move comes amid renewed military tensions in the region.

According to American media, this is a countermeasure that has been approved due to rising tensions in Iran and the armed conflict that has erupted on the border between India and Pakistan. At least four F-15s have been added to the American military assets at Diego Garcia, the strategic island where the secret base is located.

“part of the British Indian Ocean Territory, Diego Garcia is a strategic operating location for the and UK and US militaries. It hosts Space Force operations and is a key port for US Navy vessels, including nuclear submarines, and shelters a Sealift Command Prepositioning Ship Squadron.
