Abia Warriors have kicked off preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 football season.

The Umuahia-based club is gearing up for a historic campaign after finishing third in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last season—earning a place in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in their history.

Led by head coach Imama Amapakabo, the team will begin its journey in the continental competition from the preliminary round. As a result, the club has opted for an early resumption of training to ensure optimal readiness.

The initial phase of the training camp will focus on the club’s existing squad members, with new signings expected to integrate into the team later in the preseason.

In addition to Abia Warriors, the winner of the President Federation Cup final between Kwara United and Abakaliki FC will also represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite several appearances by Nigerian clubs, the country is yet to secure a title in the CAF Confederation Cup competition.
