Nigeria Professional League giants, Rangers Football Club of Enugu have appointed Uche Akubueze John as their new captain ahead of the league season.
The highly experienced defender got the nod of the club management and technical crew and that of his teammates.
The team’s administrative secretary, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua charged the new skipper to lead by example both on and off the pitch.
In his words; “As captain of a team like ours, much is expected from you in leading the team to achieve its set target for the soon to start season.
“The trust put on your shoulders is big but we have implicit confidence that you will deliver both on the pitch and out of it.
“Leadership by example is what we expect from you.”
The new skipper will be assisted by midfield maestro, Ugochukwu Ugwuoke, while Ebuka Anthony was appointed as the second assistant skipper of the side.
Rangers’ technical adviser, Abdul Maikaba also said; “It is my humble belief that you all will lead by example as much is expected from all of you, especially, the new skipper, Uche John, and I expect him to use his wealth of experience in the league to guide others to ensure we get our set target for the season.”
In his acceptance speech, Uche John said; “This is really a big task put on my shoulders but I am ready to lead by example and be a good link between players, coaches, and management.
“With the support of all, I am sure that we shall deliver the expected goals at the end of the season. I am really humbled by this additional task and I won’t disappoint those behind this choice.”
Uche John, who takes over from Tope Olusesi, has featured in over sixty-six NPFL matches from 2016 to 2022 for Enyimba and Rangers International.
