Landlords in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in a bid to make brisk business have turned their verandas as beer parlours, restaurants and other uses in a bid to generate income.

Following this development, Senior Special Assistance to FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement Ikharo Attah on Wednesday has issued warnings to landlords against renting out verandas and vacant spaces around their properties.

Attah stated this while removing illegal structures in Kubwa and Dutse.

He condemned the practice where greedy property owners rent out front of their houses to be defaced by all sorts of business operators who use containers and make shift structures to alter the layout plans.

He added that more worrisome is the fact that some of these illegally extended structures are built under extreme high tension transmission wires which is hazardous to their health.

Attah noted that such practices are unacceptable and that the administration will not tolerate a situation where beautiful neighborhood are littered with shanties, containers and make shifts mostly used as beer parlours and restaurants.
