The leadership crisis in the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC is yet to abate as two persons are still claiming the chairmanship position in Anambra state.
Anambra state is the home of the Presidential candidate of NDC and former Governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi.
Although the two told The Nation that there national leaderships are working to settle the issue of some of their displaced candidates in the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, but which of the factions will the electoral umpire recognize?
Speaking with The Nation, the person regarded as the authentic chairman of the party in Anambra state, David Chukwudifu said before the other group came with their alleged confusion, that the party had already concluded its Congresses where he was elected alongside other executive members.
David said the other person dragging the position with him, came two days after the party’s Congresses in the state.
He said INEC monitored the party’s Congress and wondered why some people want to destroy a party that was already in existence before they joined.
However, he told The Nation that the leadership of the party at the national level is doing everything humanly possible to settle with INEC on their candidates who were removed as a result of the confusion.
“I’m the chairman of NDC in Anambra, any other person claiming the position is a joker. Our national chairman and the other leaders of the party are doing everything possible to settle the issue with INEC,” David said.
Meanwhile, another factional chairman of the party and one time state lawmaker, Hon Ikem Uzoezie, told The Nation that there were problems with some names sent to INEC from the various states.
He however said the issues were being handled at the national level. “There are some names the party submitted that were not reflected. But the party has already written back to INEC to that effect for necessary corrections to be made. “All these correspondences are being handled at the national level,” Uzoezie said.
