The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Hope Urunwa, has allegedly ordered the detention and trial of a female police corporal, Ewona Nyama, for seeking to proceed on an inter-state transfer approved by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu.
An insider police source disclosed to SaharaReporters that Corporal Nyama (F/No. 075703 W/PC Ewona Nyama) is currently held in detention at the command headquarters, where the CP allegedly directed the Provost office to commence an Orderly Room Trial aimed at demoting her from Corporal to Constable.
Detailing the latest development, the source told Pecohub that the state command leadership appointed a senior officer notorious for harsh administrative sanctions to oversee her disciplinary trial.
“Please, is there anything we can do for the CP to release that girl? She has been in detention,” the source revealed.
“Someone just told me that she overheard police officers in the Provost Office, Ebonyi State Command, saying that the CP asked them to start her Orderly Room Trial and reduce her rank from Corporal to Constable. They were asked to let the Provost people choose one CSP Mustafa as the Orderly Officer, and the senior officer is very wicked,” the source added.
Pecohub had earlier reported how the female corporal’s husband, Chibueze Nyama, cried out over the prolonged administrative separation from his wife, whom he married on December 27, 2025, following official approval from the police hierarchy under signal CH:3500/EBS/DFA/SHQ/VOL.7/247.
Despite their legal marriage, Corporal Nyama was retained in Abakaliki, leaving the newlyweds separated for 10 consecutive months.
To resolve the separation, the corporal applied to Force Headquarters for a compassionate transfer to Ogun State, where her husband resides. The application was officially granted on June 1, 2026, by IGP Tunji Disu.
A copy of the transfer signal obtained by Pecohub – referenced CH:5550/WEL/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.150/53 and signed by CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin (CP Welfare, Department of Finance and Administration)—explicitly directed the Ebonyi Command:
“The Inspector-General of Police has approved the transfer of F/No 075703 W/PC EWONA NYAMA from Ebonyi State Police Command to Ogun State Police Command on compassionate grounds. Warn and release subject to proceed accordingly, please.”
Despite the explicit directive from the Inspector-General of Police, CP Hope Urunwa allegedly refused to sign her release papers, citing manpower shortages in Ebonyi State.
Efforts by Corporal Nyama to seek an audience with the Commissioner of Police alongside the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) were blocked, with officers informing her that CP Urunwa remained firm on withholding her posting.
Instead of executing the IGP’s transfer order, the command leadership has now thrown the female officer into detention, subjecting her to disciplinary trial for pursuing her lawful posting to rejoin her family.
