The FCT Police Command has unravelled the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body under the Katampe bridge in Abuja, tracing the incident to a hotel in Gwarimpa where the deceased had allegedly lodged with a married woman.
The body was discovered around 9am on August 26, 2026, along the Kubwa Expressway by the Katampe under-bridge. The deceased had previously been reported missing by his family.
FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi said investigators later confirmed that the body belonged to the missing man and discovered that his mobile phone was missing.
Although the phone had been switched off, investigators were able to establish the deceased’s last known contact. Police identified the person as Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2, who was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased.
According to the police, Muhammed and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House on Second Avenue, Gwarimpa.
Sanusi said the woman told investigators that she discovered the man was no longer breathing and had died while they were at the hotel. She allegedly took his phone and left the hotel instead of reporting the death to the police.
Hotel management later gained access to the room after attempts to contact the occupants failed and discovered the deceased’s body.
Police said two hotel workers, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the hotel and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway, where they dumped it under the Katampe bridge.
The police said the action was apparently intended to distance the hotel and its management from the incident.
The woman and the two hotel workers have been arrested in connection with the investigation.
The police, however, stressed that the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death have not yet been established.
Sanusi said investigations remain ongoing and that anyone found to have played a role in the man’s death or the subsequent concealment and abandonment of his body would face the law.
The case initially generated speculation that the body could have been linked to kidnapping or “one chance” robbery. Police said their investigation instead traced the deceased’s final movements to the Gwarimpa hotel.
