Online US Institution BYU-Pathway Receives NUC Approval in Nigeria

For the students and management of Brigham Young University – Pathway (BYU–Pathway Worldwide), an online institution and affiliate of BYU Idaho, USA, the long wait for approval of the varsity has paid off with the accreditation by the Nigerian National University Commission (NUC).

An elated Brian Ashton, President of BYU Pathway broke the news recently while addressing the top hierarchy of the management and other stakeholders at the Lagos Global Education Centre during a devotional.

“We are grateful to the NUC for recognising BYU-Pathway. It has been six years in the process. It’s been great to work with everyone at the NUC and they’ve been very supportive. And we hope to be able to serve the people of Nigeria and have our students do their national service and be employed in whatever opportunities they’re qualified for,” he said most excitedly.

The NUC approval, he stressed, covers six of the eight bachelor courses being offered by the institution. “So we offer eight bachelor’s degrees and the approval is for six of those. And then the other two are accredited by a separate institution and so we’re working on that.”

Also speaking at the occasion, General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Elder Christian Chigbundu noted that the NUC certification opens new vistas of opportunities as well as immense benefits that could accrue to the students’ body as a whole.
