The Awka Youths General Assembly (AYGA) has vehemently condemned Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the President General of Awka Town Union, and the youth leader of Awka Youth Forum describing their actions during the just-concluded Egwu Imo Awka Festival as shameful and desperate.

In a strongly worded press statement issued after the grand finale of the festival, the youth body congratulated the people of Awka for the resounding success of this year’s Egwu Imo Awka Festival, describing it as a historic display of cultural resilience and unity.
“We heartily congratulate Ndu Awka for the peaceful and successful conduct of Egwu Imo Awka 2026. Despite all odds, the festival was a huge success. We deeply appreciate Ndi Omenani (custodians of tradition) and His Imperial Majesty, Obi Dr. Austin Ndigwe, EzeUzu III, DIG Celestine Okoye Rtd among others for their unwavering support and fatherly leadership that contributed immensely to the success of this sacred event,” the statement read.
However, the group did not mince words as it launched a blistering attack on Governor Soludo, the Awka President General, and other compromised stakeholders.
The Awka Youths General Assembly accused Governor Soludo of exhibiting unpardonable pettiness by attempting to interfere in the internal affairs of Awka Kingdom, particularly on the kingship matter.
“We are shocked that a sitting governor could descend so low into the internal affairs of a kingdom. Governor Soludo has been badly humiliated. His desperate attempt to force the postponement of the date earlier announced by the legitimate Monarch, Obi Austin Ndigwe, failed woefully. The festival held successfully as planned,” the youths declared.
The group further blasted Governor Soludo’s for his inducement of some Ozo title holders to work against the festival which collapsed like a pack of cards. They also mocked his threat to withhold security, stating that the Nigerian Police, DSS and other security agencies rose to the occasion and provided adequate protection, while Awka youths conducted themselves with maturity and wisdom.

“Soludo’s threats not to provide security were put to shame. The same security agencies he tried to arm-twist performed their constitutional duties. This is a big embarrassment to him,” the statement added.
The youths also dragged the Governor for abandoning an APGA stakeholders’ meeting to pay what they described as a “surprise sympathy visit” to the deposed monarch, his first visit in over four years.
“It is clear to every discerning mind that Governor Soludo has taken sides in a matter that does not concern him. His sudden visit to his palace at a time he claimed that APGA were having their primary election rexposes his pettiness, bias and desperation,” they said.
The President General of Awka Town Union was not spared. The youths described him as hypocritical and a “political chameleon.”
“The current PG has shown himself as a man of double standards. He failed to stand firm with Ndu Awka. Instead, he changed colour like a chameleon the moment he realised that Ndi Omenani and Awka Youths General Assembly would not back down. His hypocrisy is now exposed for all to see,” the statement said.
The youth assembly reserved some of its harshest words for what it called “Okolo na eche Obodo Awka” — the so-called Youth Leaders expected to protect the interest of the community.
“We berate those who call themselves Okolo na eche Obodo Awka but sold their birthright for a few naira notes. They shamelessly closed their mouths when it mattered most. History will remember them as men who abandoned truth for stomach infrastructure,” the youths fumed.
The Awka Youths General Assembly maintained that all those who opposed the will of the people have been publicly humiliated and will continue to face shame for refusing to align with the truth.
“They have all been humiliated. Governor Soludo, the PG, and their cohorts must hide their faces in shame. The Awka General Assembly, together with the authentic Kingmakers, collectively crowned Obi Dr. Austin Ndigwe as the legitimate Monarch. No amount of intimidation or inducement can change this reality. Those who refuse to stand on the path of truth will continue to see shame,” the statement concluded.
The group reaffirmed its unwavering support for Obi Austin Ndigwe and vowed to continue defending the cultural and traditional integrity of Awka Kingdom.
