Former NBA player Lamar Odom refutes claims that his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, helped save his life when he was hospitalised due to an overdose in 2015.
The Netflix documentary, “Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom”, which premiered on March 31, explored the athlete’s 2015 near-fatal overdose at a Nevada brothel.
It focused on the four months he spent in the hospital and also highlighted the role that Kardashian played in his recovery, showing that she never left his side and made sure he received the necessary help after the overdose.
However, Odom recently appeared on the “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle” show and downplayed Kardashian’s efforts of saving his life while he was in a coma.
He was asked by one of the hosts if he felt like Kardashian indeed saved his life, to which he subtly denied.
“In some ways,” replied Odom. “God saved my life. My lord saved my life, honestly.”
The host then continued to add that even though they were already divorced, she stepped up and stood by him for four months after he suffered from 12 strokes and six heart attacks.
“A lot of us were saying Khloé, she rode hard for you,” one of the hosts said.
“Yes, she did, she took care of me,” Odom admitted. “God took care of me the most,” he added.
He further denied Kardashian’s claims she made during the documentary that his father, Joe Odom, instructed the doctors to pull the plug on him while he was in the ICU.
“You know, I was knocked out and asleep at that time. If you know Joe Odom, I don’t think that’s something he would ever come out of his mouth. He was my biggest fan. I don’t know where that got mistranslated,” he said.
In the confessional interview, Kardashian recounted how Odom’s father had insisted that the medical team needed to pull the plug on the athlete.
“I assume, he thought he’s now the beneficiary of Lamar. And Joe just said, ‘Don’t put him on life support. Turn those machines off’,” she recalled.
Kardashian added that it was only when she gave him $100 and a new pair of Nikes that he agreed to stop insisting on turning off the life support machine.
