The Nigeria Police Force INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja has successfully repatriated the sum of $23,000 recovered from an international romance scammer to the victim in The Cayman Islands.
Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday.
Hundeyin stated that the repatriation followed a request received from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service seeking assistance of the INTERPOL NCB Abuja to investigate a Nigerian national, Achufusi Obioma Ikenna, who defrauded a resident of the Cayman Islands through an online romance scam.
“Acting on the request, INTERPOL NCB Abuja conducted discreet, intelligence-led investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the sum of $23,000,” he added.
“Following the completion of all necessary documentation and in collaboration with international partners, the recovered funds were formally handed over to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, through the British High Commission in Abuja, represented by Mr. Shaun McLeary, for secure delivery to the victim.”
Meanwhile, according to ACP Hundeyin, the suspect will be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation.
He expressed delight that this successful repatriation underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s sustained commitment to intelligence-driven policing, effective international collaboration, and the disruption of transnational cybercrime networks.
Hundeyin assured that the police remains resolute in ensuring that proceeds of crime are traced, recovered, and returned to victims, while offenders are identified and brought to justice in line with applicable laws and international best practices.
In other news, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has assured that the perpetrators of the recent killings in Kwara State will be apprehended.
Egbetokun gave the assurance on Thursday in a statement signed by Hundeyin with the IGP also strongly condemning the violent attack that occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which has sadly resulted in the confirmed death of 75 persons.
He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Kwara State, over this deeply painful and tragic incident.
“The IGP reassures the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its responsibility to protect lives and property, and will continue to do everything necessary to guarantee the safety and security of all citizens,” Hundeyin said.
“In response, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence assets to Kaiama and surrounding communities.”
This action, Hundeyin explained, is aimed at restoring calm, strengthening security presence, and preventing further acts of violence in Kwara State.
The police has also launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators and all individuals connected to this heinous crime, with investigations already underway.
Hundeyin added that all available resources have been mobilised to ensure that those responsible are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice, vowing that the perpetrators will not escape the long arm of the law.
The police has urged members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information that may assist operations.
The force spokesman stated that such information can be reported at the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the country,” Hundeyin added.
