The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dissociated itself from a recent visit by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.

APC stated that the visit was a personal engagement and does not reflect the position of the party.

In a statement on Tuesday, APC’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Sterling Urakpa, reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to unseating the Labour Party-led administration in the 2027 general elections and aligning the state with the government at the centre.

The party expressed concerns over Senator Kalu’s public commendation of Governor Otti’s administration, describing it as inconsistent with the APC’s position on governance in Abia.

“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s visit was a personal engagement and does not, in any way, reflect the position or endorsement of the APC in Abia State,” the statement said.

It emphasized that the APC maintains its criticism of the Otti administration, accusing it of “persistent conflicts of interest, lack of transparency, and concealment of project costs and contract details from the public.”

The party warned its members against fraternizing with opposition figures under the guise of seeking support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that such acts could undermine party discipline and unity.

“We strongly disapprove of any member engaging in political fraternization with opposition figures, especially under the pretext of canvassing support for President Tinubu. The party will not condone a repeat of the 2023 scenario, where certain individuals compromised party integrity without consequences,” Urakpa stated.

The APC called on its ward and local government executives—especially those in the constituencies of Senator Kalu and Senator Chris Adighije—to remain vigilant and safeguard the party’s cohesion and strategic interests.

“As we approach the 2027 elections, the Abia APC remains committed to upholding discipline and preventing any derailment caused by political distractions or personal ambition. The party will invoke constitutional provisions where necessary,” the statement added.

Reiterating its readiness for the 2027 electoral contest, the APC asserted that no amount of political gestures or public praises for the Labour Party government would sway its resolve to reclaim the state.

“We are focused on building a united and formidable Abia APC capable of winning elections. No visit or unfounded accolades will derail our mission to align the state with the federal government,” the party said.

Urakpa also urged Abians to critically assess the performance of the current administration in comparison with other states, asserting that many are applauding “less work despite the substantial federal support received by the state.”

“Abians must understand the reality of governance in the state. When compared with other states, it becomes clear how much they’ve lost while clapping with one hand.”
