Anambra state government has entered into a strategic partnership with leading transport company, OMAA Motors
The partnership aims to address longstanding transportation challenges in the state, offering residents a safer, more efficient, and modern commuting experience. In an exclusive interview, OMAA Motors’ Operations Manager, Mr. Dickson Obonyano, revealed that the collaboration is driven by the founder’s desire to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development, particularly in the transportation sector.
Mr. Obonyano explained that in February 2025, OMAA Motors launched O’Link, a new division focused on revolutionizing transport services in Anambra. O’Link operates with a strict schedule system to instill a culture of punctuality among commuters, ensuring buses depart from designated points at set times—an approach aimed at overhauling the state’s existing transport narrative.
Highlighting the features of O’Link buses, Mr. Obonyano noted that they are equipped with advanced security technology, including cameras, tracking devices, charging ports, and air-conditioning, ensuring comfort, safety, and convenience for passengers. A control room monitors bus activities in real-time to enhance operational efficiency.
Currently in its pilot phase, the company is collecting and analyzing data on passenger numbers, fare pricing, and system functionality, which will be submitted to the government to guide future improvements.
“O’Link is committed to offering Anambra residents a comfortable, affordable, and secure transportation experience,” said Mr. Obonyano. “For example, our fare from Awka to Onitsha is ₦800, providing exceptional value, and setting new standards to encourage healthy competition that will ultimately benefit commuters.”
Beyond Awka-Onitsha operations, O’Link plans to expand its services to other key cities including Ekwulobia and Nnewi, offering scheduled bus services, vehicle hire, and other transport solutions using facilities provided by the state government.
The company also boasts a vehicle manufacturing factory located in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, where it assembles models such as the T6 and 2.7m vehicles. Some of these vehicles have already been integrated into the governor’s official convoy, reflecting their quality and reliability.
Looking ahead, Mr. Obonyano disclosed that O’Link plans to introduce a debit card payment system, modeled after Lagos State’s BRT system. The initiative will align with the federal government’s cashless policy, allowing commuters to recharge their cards and have fares automatically deducted.
To maintain operational excellence, O’Link subjects drivers and staff to a rigorous recruitment process, including online applications, detailed screenings, and final approval by the CEO. The company also plans to onboard private motorists who meet its operational standards.
Mr. Obonyano emphasized OMAA Motors’ commitment to sustainability, revealing that the company is investing heavily in energy-efficient vehicle technologies, including hybrid, CNG-powered, and electric vehicles—key steps toward reducing Nigeria’s reliance on petrol and promoting greener transportation solutions.
The partnership between Anambra State and OMAA Motors marks a major step forward in modernizing the state’s transport infrastructure, aligning with Governor Soludo’s broader mission to build a competitive and prosperous homeland modeled after global examples like Dubai and Taiwan.
