A parent sacrificing their dreams to support their kids is a tale as old as time. But what happens when you’re already living your dream — and you don’t want to give it up? That’s the boat Kim Kardashian is in right now with her 11-year-old daughter North West, who she shares with ex Kanye West. The SKIMS founder revealed that she is already feeling “conflicted” about her pre-teen’s career, and people had big feelings about it.
Kardashian’s own mom and momager Kris Jenner shared a clip of her and her daughter talking about North’s career in a teaser for the newest season of The Kardashians on Hulu.
“I thought I was busy before,” Kardashian tells her mom in the video. “North, me having to be her momager right now, is crazy. It’s just, it was not on my list. It was not on my bingo card for this year.”
“It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of energy,” Jenner responds. And if anyone would know, it’s Kris Jenner!
Unlike Jenner, though, Kardashian is “not ready” to pass the torch to her daughter. “If she has a shoot, I have to be there all day, so it’s like her or me,” Kardashian added.
“I’m really conflicted on my daughter’s career, so we’re going to talk about that soon,” the mom of four said in a confessional. “I just really want to make sure that everything’s really well balanced. All of the work experiences are balanced out with just enough fun life experiences. I just want balance.”
The comments section of the video were blowing up with people slamming Kardashian for different reasons. Some people think North’s too young for a career anyway. “Shes 11 why does she need a career???” one person said. Another said, “Your daughter should be concerned about school not a career.”
Others think North, who is currently recording her own album, Elementary School Dropout, and making celebrity appearances, should have the focus. “The fact that she makes it about her … it’s time for her to do what her Mom did! You have had the spotlight enough Kimmie !” one person judgily wrote.
“Kim should let her daughter shine,” another commented. Someone else wrote, “Her or me is crazy 😮 I gave my whole career and dreams up for my kiddos. We all definitely different.”
People can’t decide whether Kardashian is too selfish for not wanting to give up her entire career for her daughter (it’s an easy decision until you’re the one who has to make it, BTW!) or if she is a bad mom for letting her pre-teen have a career in the first place. It just goes to show that nothing parents can do will be right, so might as well just do what’s best for your family. Although, if Kardashian is looking for real advice, this person had a good idea: “So… hire a manager for her???? it’s not like you’re running out of money lmao 😭.” Being a momager doesn’t have to be a family business, after all!
Last month, Kardashian opened up about how she is being “forced” into a momager role with her daughter North. “She’ll get an offer to do a photo shoot or something. And like, we really sit and talk about it as a family,” she said on an episode of World’s First Podcast, per PEOPLE.
She added that she does her best to “protect” and be “so mindful” of the fact that North and her other children Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 5, are still so young, but it’s hard to say no when they “want to do it so badly.”
“She wants to even if it’s not her craft or she wants to learn,” Kardashian said about opportunities her daughter North has received, like starring as Young Simba in a production of The Lion King. “She just genuinely wants to do it and then the other kids will get voiceovers and then I’ll hear them so proud of each other when they do it, and want to go and support and they all want one.”
The proud mom added, “You know, if North has something and I have to take off filming to do something with her, it just has to be a family decision. And really important to her. There’s so much that I’ve stopped because it’s too much, and I’m really not ready to be a momager, and I’m kind of forced into this.”
