Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), the oldest grammar school in Anambra State, has reached a historic milestone as it marks its 100th anniversary.
Founded in 1925 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), the institution has grown to become a cornerstone of academic and moral excellence in Nigeria.
The centenary celebration is set to be a grand affair, with alumni, staff, students, and dignitaries coming together to honor the school’s rich history and achievements.
Events planned include a thanksgiving service, lectures, cultural displays, and a gala night, all aimed at showcasing the school’s legacy and charting a vision for the future.
DMGS, located in Onitsha, is known for producing outstanding individuals who have excelled in various fields, including politics, academia, business, and the arts.
Among its notable alumni are former governors, legal luminaries, and prominent scholars who continue to make an impact both locally and globally.
Speaking about the centenary, the school principal expressed pride in the institution’s legacy. “For 100 years, DMGS has been a beacon of hope and excellence.
This celebration is not just about reflecting on our past but also about building a stronger foundation for the future,” he said.
The school’s Old Boys’ Association has been instrumental in organizing the celebrations and has also announced plans to renovate key infrastructure and launch new scholarships to support indigent students.
DMGS remains a symbol of enduring values and quality education, and its centenary marks a significant chapter in the history of Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.
