The head coach of ‘Flying Antelopes’, Rangers International F.C of Enugu, Fidelis Ilechukwu has assured supporters of the club their readiness and commitment to hit 70 point by defeating Gombe United FC at New Jos City stadium.
The club which would be crowned champions of the 2023/2024 NPFL season are already in Jos with the full complement of its playing staff as it engages Gombe United in the last fixture of the season with its eyes set on ending the season on a high and fly back to the Coal City with the giant trophy.
Recall the the club having amassed an unassailable five points ahead of second-placed, Remo Stars of Ikenne after a 2-0 win over Bendel Insurance in the penultimate round fixtures and going into the last day match fixture with bottom-placed Gombe United, coach Ilechukwu and his wards have their works cut out.
Against a side that has been able to record a solitary win in its last six matches, the ‘Building One’ as Ilechukwu would want to be described, is optimistic of getting a good result to make the trophy presentation memorable as management has made arrangements to fly the team and the gold plaited trophy back to Enugu on a chartered flight for a trophy tour around Enugu metropolis.
In the reverse fixture in Enugu early this year, the waiting-to-be-crowned league champions, triumphed 4-1 with goals coming off the boots of Godwin Obaje who scored a brace while Chidiebere Nwobodo and Kenechukwu Agu helped themselves to a goal each and all these players are still very much present to navigate ways past the expected tough challenge from the coach Ibrahim Kwaranga led side inside the New Zaria Road Stadium, Jos, Plateau State with kickoff fixed for 3:00 pm.
With the crème-de-la-crème in the football industry expected at the New Jos Stadium to watch history being made as Rangers is crowned champions of the top flight league for the 8th time in its fifty-four years’ history, some of the gladiators on the pitch like top scorer, Godwin Obaje would be looking to increase his goals haul from eleven for the season just as Ejike Ugochukwu would be increasing his appearance to thirty-seven matches in his very first season in top flight while goalkeeper, Japhet Opubo would want to raise his clean-sheet between the sticks from the current twelve in twenty-eight games.
Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, ‘The Building One’ who has led the likes of M.F.M F.C and Plateau United to runner-up positions in the past would be testing his first league triumph with Rangers and is optimistic of a grand finish to the season as he said, “It is not easy to be a champion and I thank Enugu state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah for his dedication to our aspirations as well as the G.M/CEO of the club, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, who has done very well in motivating the team at all times just as we can’t forget the strong support from our fans all over the world. The game in Jos is significant to us because we want to win every game. We want to see Rangers hit seventy points, we are on 67 points right now. No match is a small match and we shall approach the match against Gombe United with all the respect it deserves but with the mindset of winning.”
